Richard Martin Chitting Potatoes 47 The Green Netherton Lancashire 1950s

Richard (Dick) Martin was born at Buckley Hill, Sefton Lancashire on the 27th December 1884. He as the tenth and youngest child of Joseph Martin and Mary Martin (Nee Rimmer).
He served as a driver in World War One in the Army Service Corps, marrying his wife Jane McShane on the 11th Feb 1917 at St Swithen's Church, Waverley Road, Southsea, Portsmouth before he was sent overseas. Attached to The Trench Mortar Battery he served at Arras, he was gassed and admitted to hospital in November 1917.
Richard survived the war and returned home to Jane, the couple had two daughters and lived for nearly all their married life at Netherton Green. Richard worked at Aintree Racecourse and when he was at home loved working in his garden and greenhouse. He died at 110, Market St, Westhoughton, Lancashire, the home of his eldest daughter on the 23rd April 1967.
