Sergeant Hebert Julian Brooke, 19th (2nd Public Schools Battalion) Royal Fusiliers.

Later promoted to Captain in the King's African Rifles.

Awarded the Military Cross "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He crawled out to a dangerously wounded NCO under heavy fire, and carried him on his back to a position under cover where stretcher bearers could reach him when they arrived. He showed splendid courage and devotion to duty" - during the fight at Mpingo, September 1917
