Gladys Winifred Punter was born on 11 August 1907 on The Isle of Wight, her father, Thomas, was 33, and her mother, Esther, was 30. She married Thomas Daniel Mills in October 1937 in her hometown. They had one child during their marriage. She died in February 1990 at the age of 82.
