Alfred Edwin Bawtree 1900

Alfred Edwin Bawtree 1900

Alfred Edwin Bawtree was born in Sutton on the 11th Oct 1874. He was the eldest son of Alfred and Matilda Bawtree. Alfred was an inventor who found fame but not fortune, being the first man to produce a record of sound on film which could be played back, long before talking pictures. He married Lucy Legg in 1902 and lived at Lynton 20 Manor Park Road Sutton where they had three children. Sadly like his father he lost his sight in the last 12 years of his life. Alfred died on 26 September 1944 in Sutton at the age of 69.
