William Joeph Holt as born on the 6th Aug 1874 in Croydon Surrey. He was one of the ten children of Chrstopher Were Holt and Mary Criffield Holt (Nee Riddehdell)
The Family moved to Sutton in the 1880s and started a printing and stationers shop at 69 High Street. William's father died in 1892 and his mother Mary and the family continued to run the shop
By 1911 William was running a china and glass shop by himself at 12 High Street Sutton. At the age of 47 in 1922 William married Lizzie Burnham at St Nicholas Church Sutton and the couple lived at 55 Albion Road Sutton.
William joined The Sutton Rotary Club in 1923 and was president between 1929-30, always showing a keen interest in the international aspect of the Rotary club. He visited Cleveland USA in 1925 and the Toronto Convention in 1927. In total he visited some 20 foreign and 35 home clubs.
William died on the 21st Feb 1954 in Sutton.
