West Lodge Ashtead Park c.1880West Lodge Ashtead Park c.1880The gates of The Park were kept shut to prevent deer from straying and Sir Thomas Lucas offered the use of West Lodge to the headmaster of St Giles' School and his wife at the sum of £40 per annum, on condition that a boy or girl should always be in attendance to open and shut the gates.
